In Meriden, police received a call from a Park Street resident at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, stating that their Ring doorbell camera alerted them to a suspicious man who walked into the back of the home.
The family’s alarm company subsequently called them to advise that there were multiple activations at the Park Street home, according to the Meriden Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers from the department located a broken side window and a man inside the home, authorities said. They then set up a perimeter, and after nearly a half-hour, the suspect, 32-year-old Wayne Vargas-Dejesus, attempted to flee through the back door and was apprehended without further incident.
According to police, the house was cleared by members of the Crime Suppression Unit, with no other suspects located inside.
The entire house was reportedly ransacked.
Vargas-Dejesus was arrested and charged with:
- Burglary;
- Carrying and sale of a dangerous weapon;
- Possession of burglar’s tools;
- Criminal trespass;
- Criminal mischief;
- Larceny.
His bond was set at $75,000.
